Pediatric ENT Q&A

What is a pediatric ENT?

A pediatric ENT is a doctor who diagnoses and treats conditions that affect children’s ears, noses, and throats.

The pediatric ENTs at Advanced ENT & Allergy have extensive training and expertise. They know how to identify acute and chronic issues and can develop a custom care plan to minimize uncomfortable symptoms and improve your child’s quality of life.

What pediatric ENT conditions do we treat?

At Advanced ENT & Allergy, our providers diagnose and treat various pediatric conditions, including:

  • Ear infections
  • Sinus infections
  • Tonsil and adenoid infections
  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Hearing loss
  • Sleep apnea
  • Snoring

Your child might also benefit from seeing one of our providers if they have any chronic ear, nose, and throat symptoms.

How do I prepare for a pediatric ENT appointment?

To get the most out of your child’s visit to Advanced ENT & Allergy, it’s important to prepare in advance. The team recommends bringing the following items to your child’s appointment:

  • Health insurance card
  • List of the medicines, supplements, and vitamins your child takes
  • List of any underlying medical conditions your child has
  • Results from any recent or relevant medical tests

If your child is experiencing any unusual symptoms, make sure to write those down as well. Your child’s provider might use that information to help make a diagnosis.

What happens during a pediatric ENT appointment?

At Advanced ENT & Allergy, the team tailors pediatric ENT appointments to each child’s needs. For example, if your child has an earache, their provider examines their ears and conducts several tests, including an audiogram and a tympanogram. An audiogram assesses your child’s hearing, while a tympanogram measures their ear pressure.

If a physical exam and screening tests aren’t enough to make a diagnosis, your child’s provider might also order diagnostic imaging, like a CT scan or an MRI. These procedures can identify issues invisible to the eye, like blocked sinuses, nasal obstructions, or tumors.

After determining the source of your child’s symptoms, their Advanced ENT & Allergy provider develops a treatment plan. Often, that includes a combination of prescription medication and healthy lifestyle changes.
